...led to some edible and non-edible creations.

My work as an artist often reflects the things that I love. It makes sense, that the things in this world that I give my attention to would be the things that I am inspired to direct the attention of others to.
At the beginning of the pandemic when toilet paper became a rare commodity, yeast became hard to come by too. Evidently a lot of us had turned to baking bread while cooped up in our homes. And who could blame us--is there anything more comforting than the scent of oven-fresh bread?
In my desperate search for yeast, I ended up finding a bulk ingredient company and ordering 2 whopping pounds of the magical microorganisms (yum) to ship to my house, because everything smaller was nowhere to be found. I told myself I'd better bake a lot to justify it. And so I did.
I've tried out some excellent recipes, making everything from loaves and rolls to soft pretzels and pizza crust. The most repeatedly baked, by far, was a simple artisan loaf. In fact, I baked so many artisan loaves that I eventually ended up illustrating them. Because like I said, my work as an artist often reflects the things that I love.
I'll be sharing some of my favorite yeast-risen recipes in time, but first, I wanted to celebrate the launch of this little web project with an art print gift to you!
I'm producing some 4x6" postcard prints of this original watercolor that I'll be mailing out. This isn't a contest/raffle; everyone who completes the simple Instagram actions can submit a mailing address for me to send a print to. Click the link below to access the checklist and submit a mailing address.
Note: your information won't be used for anything except to mail you the print. Unless you're my friend and you text me to demand more snail mail because you haven't heard from me in too long.
Hooray for bread, art, and snail mail! And lots more to come on this blog.
Oh, and despite all my baking efforts, I still have close to 2 pounds of yeast. So if anyone local is in need of some, give me a holler. Happy to be a lending neighbor. :)
