Goat Cheese Stuffed Figs

A super quick & easy yet deceptively fancy looking appetizer

I love fresh figs. I grew up eating them as a child overseas, and was confused when I came over to the states and discovered that most of my peers only associated figs with extremely processed brown bars that came in a pack in the grocery store. I could eat a whole bowl of these fresh ones with ease, but this recipe takes them to the next level with very little effort. In fact, "recipe" might be an overstatement for these instructions.

You can get creative with the flavors on this one--I've seen recipes that use balsamic, prosciutto, other herbs, nuts, and spices. But here's my go-to combo!

Goat Cheese Stuffed Figs with Honey, Walnuts, and Sage

Ingredients:

  • fresh figs

  • log of goat cheese

  • walnuts

  • honey

  • fresh sage leaves, chopped (optional)

Key Supplies: knife, spoon, baking sheet

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Cut the hard stem off of figs, and cut an "x" shape across the top of the figs, about 2/3 of the way down but keeping the base intact.

  3. Using a spoon, put a small dollop of goat cheese into each fig's cut opening.

  4. Top each dollop with a piece of walnut, as well as a bit of chopped sage.

  5. Place stuffed figs on baking sheet and roast in oven for about 8-10 minutes, until goat cheese is warmed but making sure the sage and walnut doesn't brown too much.

  6. Remove from oven and drizzle a little honey on top of each fig, and enjoy!

Here are some fig photos because I just think they're beautiful.
